Ryley Smith Commits to Red Deer College

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Mustangs are proud to announce that forward Ryley Smith has committed to the Red Deer College Kings of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

Smith, 21, joined the Mustangs in a trade deadline deal in January as part of a series of moves made by Head Coach/GM Tyler Drader at the penultimate hour of the deadline. In 15 regular season games with the Mustangs Ryley scored 3 goals and assisted on 5 others for a season total of 12 goals and 28 assists in 46 AJHL games, split between the Olds Grizzlys, Whitecourt Wolverines and Mustangs. Smith added 2 assists in 3 games with the Mustangs in the postseason.

“[I'm] proud to announce my commitment to play hockey at Red Deer College for this upcoming season,” says Ryley. “[I'm] excited to take the next step and play college hockey for a great program that has had a history of success the last few years under a great coaching staff! I will be entering the school of education there, something that I'm excited to start.”

“It's great to see Ryley committing to Red Deer College,” adds Mustangs Head Coach and GM Tyler Drader. “He's a fantastic young man with a bright future. We are very happy for him.”

Ryley is the first player to commit to a postsecondary institution directly out of the Mustangs organization this year. In 144 career AJHL games over a span of 3 seasons, Smith has recorded 34 goals and 75 assists for 109 points in addition to 109 penalty minutes. A product of the Red Deer Chiefs and Airdrie Xtreme minor hockey association, Ryley will join the Kings program beginning in the 2018-19 academic year.

On behalf of the Mustangs organization and our fans, we wish Ryley the best moving forward and look forward to his future with Red Deer College.
