The final Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the 2024-25 regular season is Gavin Schmidt of the Calgary Canucks. The 20 year-old forward led the league with eight points (2G, 6A) over two games played from March 10th-16th.
Gavin Schmidt (Okotoks, AB) earned the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award twice with two multi-point performances. On March 14th, the veteran Canuck recorded two assists in a 6-3 road loss to the Drumheller Dragons before posting a career-high six-point game (2G, 4A) to close out the season with a 12-2 win on home ice versus the Olds Grizzlys.
In his third season with the Canucks, Schmidt has 54 points in 52 games, double his point total from the 2023-24 AJHL season, and is tied for 10th in the AJHL Scoring Race.
Calgary will hold the top-seed throughout the 2025 Inter Pipeline Cup AJHL Playoffs after finishing first overall and capturing the Dave Duchak Trophy as regular season champions. The Canucks (1) face the Camrose Kodiaks (4) in the opening round starting Friday, March 21st.
Shawn Eliav is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week with a five-point performance in two wins for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
The 20 year-old defenceman recorded two assists on March 10th while holding the Devon Xtreme to one goal in an 8-1 victory, then earned the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award on March 11th with four points (1G, 3A) in a 5-4 road win in Camrose. The first-year Oil Baron had 15 points in 30 games and will enter the post-season with seven points in his last five games.
The Oil Barons (4) will meet the Whitecourt Wolverines (1) in Round One of the 2025 Inter Pipeline Cup AJHL Playoffs.
For the third time this season, Cooper Moore of the Lloydminster Bobcats has been selected as the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week. The 2006-born forward recorded five points (2G, 3A) in two games as the Bobcats extended their winning streak to nine games to end the regular season.
Moore (Red Deer, AB) scored a goal and an assist on March 14th to defeat the Grande Prairie Storm 7-5 and added another goal and two assists in a 5-3 win the next day to complete the double header with a 5-3 victory. The Bobcats (3) and Storm (2) will now meet in the first round of the post-season after finishing just a point apart in the Viterra AJHL North Division.
Cooper Moore is a finalist for the 2024-25 AJHL Rookie of the Year Award after collecting 50 points (15G, 35A) in 42 games played, ranking him fifth among AJHL rookies in scoring and tied for first in team scoring.
