Fort McMurray, AB – The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are pleased to announce that 20-year-old forward Peter Tomaras (Edmonton, AB) has committed to attend and play for the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Tomaras' commitment to Concordia will begin this Fall.
“As a coaching staff and organization, we're extremely excited and proud for Peter,” said Oil Barons Head Coach and General Manager Tom Keca.
“He's a versatile, heart and soul player that moved up and down our lineup throughout the course of the season and played in many key situations for us,” added Keca. “Peter is a leader on and off the ice and as a coaching staff, we're happy he's able to continue his hockey career and begin his studies at Concordia next season.”
Tomaras joined the Oil Barons last season, after a mid-season trade brought him to Fort McMurray. In 76 career games with the Oil Barons, Tomaras registered 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points. Throughout the course of the 2018-19 season, Tomaras became a very effective and versatile player for the Oil Barons and provided balance to each of the team's four lines. Tomaras' versatility allowed him to contribute offensively and set new career highs, with 13 of his 18 goals with the Oil Barons being scored this past season.
“I am very excited that we are able to add a player of Peter’s quality to our team,” said Thunder Head Coach Dan Glegloff. “Peter is a competitive player who plays a hard game and has the ability to produce offence. He is also a committed student and will be an excellent addition to the positive culture in our athletics department.”
Tomaras plans to pursue a business degree at Concordia. He joins teammates Liam Izyk (Alabama-Huntsville, NCAA), Ryan Conroy (Yale, NCAA) and Jaedon Leslie (Ohio State, NCAA) as players from the team's 2018/19 active roster to commit to a post-secondary institution.
