BROOKS, AB (April 28, 2019) – The Brooks Bandits got a three-point night from forward Jake Lee (Owen Sound, ON), and a 22-save shutout from goaltender Pierce Charleson (Aurora, ON) en route to a 4-0 blanking of the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings at the Centennial Regional Arena on Sunday night.
With the win, the Bandits take a 2-1 series lead with all remaining games of the series to be played in Prince George beginning Wednesday night.
Unlike the early opening goals seen in both prior games of the series, the scoring didn’t begin until the final minute of the first in Game 3, when, while on the power play, Ray Christy (St. Paul, MN) wired a wrist shot from the right circle past goalie Logan Neaton to give Brooks the 1-0 advantage heading into the second.
In that middle frame, Lee notched his first of the game at the 5:09 mark when he fired a shot through a screen at the left circle off the rush to take a 2-0 lead.
Brooks then outshot the Spruce Kings 8-2 in the final frame, notching two more goals as well. First, Lee got his second at the 4:07 mark tapping home a rebound of a shot from the slot by Simon Boyko (Mississauga, ON). Then, the Spruce Kings got into penalty trouble, accruing more than 70 penalty minutes in the period. After the visitors were called for high sticking at the 6:39 mark, a post-whistle kerfuffle led to a game misconduct for Ben Brar, and the ensuing Brooks power play saw Tyler Campbell (Winnipeg, MB) sweep home a perfect cross-slot pass from Lee off the rush to notch the 4-0 final score.
Tempers continued to flare with four more players sent to the showers early in the dying minutes, an ejection for Prince George head coach Adam Maglio, and a bench minor for the Spruce Kings at the same time. As time expired, the two teams’ short benches cleared out with a 4-0 final score in the game. Brooks was 2 for 6 on the power play and a perfect 2 for 2 on the penalty kill, outshooting the Spruce Kings 31-22.
The series shifts to BC for Games 4 and 5 on Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. Pre-game coverage starts at 7:45 PM Mountain time on Real Country 105.7.
