Western Canada Cup Daily Recap – April 30

Three out of four teams are set for the 2014 Western Canada Cup playoffs following the Yorkton Terriers 4-1 victory over the Coquitlam Express Wednesday evening at Credit Union Place.

Coquitlam, Dauphin and Yorkton have all made it to the weekend with Spruce Grove and Winnipeg playing a massive contest Thursday afternoon with the winner heading to the playoffs while the loser goes home.

Back to tonight's contest. Yorkton scored two goals in the second and two more in the third to ice the tilt. They had tallies from Chase Norrish (1), Brett Boehm (5), Tayler Thompson (2) and Dylan Johnson (1). The lone goal scorer for Coquitlam was Joey Santucci (1).

Coquitlam was without their Captain Ryan Rosenthal who continues to recover from a lower body injury. In goal Kale Thomson turned aside 24 of 25 shotsfor the Terriers while Gordie Defiel stopped 39 of 43 for the Express.

Power Plays finished with Yorkton going 2 for 5 and Coquitlam ended 0 for 4.

Player of the game awards were handed out to Yorkton's Chase Norrish while Marc Biega took the accolade for Coquitlam, both are D-men.

So here's what we know going into the final day of the round robin. Tomorrow afternoon Spruce Grove and Winnipeg will play for a spot in the playoffs (2:00pm), the loser goes home. In the evening Dauphin and Coquitlam will battle it out for first in the round robin (7:00pm). The winner there finishes atop the standings with home ice in the championship game on Saturday. The loser falls into a three way tie for second which will result in the calculators being brought out. It get's really complicated from there!
