Every CJHL league represented on opening day rosters
CALGARY, Alberta – The Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) will be well represented for the 2015-2016 NHL season with 133 alumni on team rosters opening day. Every CJHL member league had alumni representing them on opening day. On average there are 4.4 CJHL alumni per team in the NHL.
The Ottawa Senators and the Columbus Blue Jackets led the way with each having eight CJHL alumni on their opening day rosters. The Philadelphia Flyers were next with a total seven CJHL alumni, while three NHL teams, the Edmonton Oilers, St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils had five CJHL alumni on their opening day rosters.
Additionally, six CJHL alumni started the 2015-16 season as captains of their respective NHL teams.
The following are the CJHL alumni who serve as captains of their NHL teams.
- Jamie Benn, BCHL – Dallas Stars
- Brian Gionta, OJHL – Buffalo Sabres
- Mark Giordano, OJHL – Calgary Flames
- Claude Giroux, CCHL – Philadelphia Flyers
- Andrew Ladd, BCHL – Winnipeg Jets
- Willie Mitchell, BCHL/SJHL – Florida Panthers
