AJHL Gas Drive Playoffs – Weekend Review

The second round of the AJHL playoffs opened up over the weekend.

Things didn't start off so well for the regular season champion Spruce Grove Saints.

The Crusaders tally for two goals in the first and two goals in the second period en route to a 4-2 win in game one.

Game two was a defensive battle that saw Crusaders goaltender Tommy Nixon make 42 saves as the Crusaders beat the Saints 2-1 in overtime to take a 2-0 series lead.

Game three will be in Sherwood Park tonight at 7:00.

The Lloydminster Bobcats came out strong in game one in Fort McMurray on Friday night jumping out to a 3-1 lead after one period.

However, the Oil Barons would chip away at that lead and tie the game at 3-3 after two.

The Oil Barons would score the winning goal just 31 seconds into the third period to take game one.

Game two had the Oil Barons come out strong and take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

The Bobcats would answer with two goals in the second to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Lloydminster would get some insurance in the third period and win game two 3-1 to even the series at one game a piece.

Game three will go tonight at 7:30 in Lloydminster.

In the South the Brooks Bandits dominated the Olds Grizzlys, taking game one 7-3.

The Bandits would jump out to a 4-0 lead in game two and then cruise to a 5-1 victory.

Game three between the Grizzlys and Bandits goes Monday night in Olds, puck drop at 7:30.

Because of minor hockey provincials taking place in Drumheller the Dragons had to open up the second round on the road in Canmore.

The Dragons would mind that in game one as they scored early and often to take game one 6-2.

Game two would see all the goals scored in the first period.

Canmore would out score the Dragons 4-2, from there it was the Eagles goaltending that allowed them to tie the series at 1-1.

The series now shifts back to Drumheller for game three on Monday night, puck drop at 7:00.
