The Lloydminster Bobcats are pleased to announce that 19 year old defenceman Josh Atkinson (Spruce Grove, Alberta) has accepted a scholarship to attend and play for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks (NCAA Div. I) in the 2012-2013 season. The Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks play in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA).
Josh is having a break-out year with the Bobcats, scoring 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in 55 games to put him 4th among all Alberta Junior Hockey League defencemen in scoring. 8 of Josh’s 13 goals have been scored on the powerplay. Over his two-year career with the Bobcats, he has played in 112 games accumulating 15 goals, 38 assists, and 138 penalty minutes.
“Not only has Josh improved as a hockey player but he has also matured leaps and bounds as a young man,” said Head Coach/GM Brian Curran. “This is just the beginning to what I believe will be a long future in the game of hockey for this young man. It has been a prviledge to coach him and I wish him the best!”
The Bobcats organization would like to congratulate Josh and his family and wish him all the best in his future endeavours both academically and athletically.
