Cade Mason Commits To Long Island University

(Spruce Grove, AB) – The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce 20 year-old defenseman Cade Mason has committed to the Long Island University Sharks, who compete as an Independent School, within the NCAA’s Men’s Hockey Division 1.

Mason has put together one of the most dominant defensive campaigns for the Spruce Grove Saints since being acquired from the Grande Prairie Storm at the beginning of the 2021-2022 season. In 53 regular season and playoff games this season he compiled 36 points (6 goals, 30 assists).

Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk was thrilled to see Mason rewarded with this commitment and says, “Long Island University is getting a great hockey player and an outstanding person in Cade Mason. I am extremely proud of Cade, from the way he carries himself around the dressing room to the unbelievable passion he has for the game, I am pleased to see Cade get an opportunity at the next level.”

The 5’11″, 181-pound forward from Red Deer, Alberta will be the first Saint in history to attend Long Island University.

Saints Head Coach Bram Stephen shared his thoughts on his most recent and growing list of committed players saying, “Cade’s impact on the hockey team this year was tremendous. He is mature and professional in his everyday approach. He’s very grounded and possesses all the qualities a hockey program could want.”

An exited Mason spoke of his commitment to the Sharks and says, “I am so excited to join Long Island University next year and continue my hockey career while getting an amazing degree. The chance of playing Division 1 hockey is so rewarding and has been a dream of mine my whole life. I cannot thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches enough for everything that they have done for me throughout my career. I would also like to thank the Spruce Grove Saints organization for bringing me in this year and doing everything they could to help me achieve this dream.”

Mason joins Logan Acheson (Bemidji State), Caiden Gault (Ferris State), Jayden Davis (Notre Dame), Luigi Benincasa (Ferris State), Niko Jovanovic (Notre Dame), Liam Watkins (Nebraska-Omaha), Brett Pfoh (Bowling Green), Breck Mckinley (Bowling Green) as committed players to NCAA Divisions I University this season.
