EDINA, Minn. – After helping their teams to an upset of the nation’s top-ranked team and an important victory in the league playoff chase, respectively, the men’s Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Players of the Week for games of Feb. 13-14, 2015 are: Alaska junior forward Tyler Morley (Offensive Player of the Week), Alaska senior goaltender Sean Cahill (Defensive Player of the Week) and Alabama Huntsville freshman forward Max McHugh (Rookie of the Week).
WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Sean Cahill, Sr., G, Alaska (Brooks / Okotoks, AJHL)
Cahill backstopped Alaska to a 1-0-1, three-point weekend against the nation’s top-ranked team, allowing just one Minnesota State goal in each contest. The senior from Calgary, Alberta posted a .953 save percentage (39 saves on 41 shots) and anchored a defensive unit that held the Mavericks to a 1-for-13 showing on the power-play. Cahill made 17 saves, including three in overtime, during Friday’s 1-1 tie; then, he recorded 24 stops during a 3-1 Nanooks victory Saturday.
