Sherwood Park Crusaders rookie, Carter Savoie, is the Canalta Hotels Player of the Week. Carter was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in all three Crusader victories over the week, recording 6 points (5G, 1A) in three games, and two game winning goals.
Savoie (St Albert, AB) and the Cru won a close 2-1 battle with the Drayton Valley Thunder on Wednesday night. Carter scored the game winner, the first in his AJHL career, to secure two points for the Crusaders. Sherwood Park ran away with two weekend wins versus the Grande Prairie Storm. The 16 year-old forward scored 2 goals and an assist in a 7-1 victory on Saturday night in Grande Prairie, and 2 goals in a 4-1 victory on Sunday. He opened the scoring on Sunday and scored the eventual game winner unassisted to pick up his third consecutive Viterra Star of the Game Award.
Carter Savoie leads the Crusaders in scoring and is third in the AJHL Scoring Race with 24 points (13G, 11A), an average of 1.3 points per game through the first 18 games of the regular season. He is committed to the University of Denver in the NCAA Division I.
The Crusaders are 9-1-0 in the last 10 games and tied for second place in the North Division Standings.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Ryan Conroy of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The MOB defenceman recorded 5 assists in two games last week versus South Division opponents.
Ryan Conroy (Chestermere, AB) added 3 assists in a narrow 6-5 defeat at the hands of the Okotoks Oilers on Friday night. The 17 year-old also added another 2 assists in a 5-3 loss to the Canmore Eagles on Sunday. The second year Oil Baron is tied for fourth in team scoring with 10 points (2G, 8A).
