The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Camrose Kodiaks forward Kyler Kupka. The 19 year-old added to his 9-game point streak with 3 goals and 2 assists in two games over the week of November 12th-18th.
On Friday night, Kyler scored the first goal of the game, assisted on the game winner, and put up the insurance goal in a 5-3 win over the Calgary Mustangs. He received the honour of Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for a 4-point night (2G, 2A). On Saturday night, Kupka added to his weekly total with an unassisted goal in a 7-2 victory against the visiting Canmore Eagles.
The hometown boy has recorded 13 points in the last 9 games for the Kods, and recorded points in 20 of 23 games in the regular season. The third-year Kodiak is 7th overall in AJHL Scoring with 30 points (15G, 15A) in 23 games and leads the team in scoring.
For a second consecutive week, the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Luke Lush of the Drayton Valley Thunder. Lush posted two wins and extended the current win streak for the Thunder to five games.
Luke Lush (Sherwood Park, AB) stopped 29 of 31 shots against his first North Division foe of the weekend, taking a 3-2 win from the Lloydminster Bobcats. Lush was rewarded with the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award for his fourth straight win. On Saturday night, Lush and the Thunder stole a 2-1 shutout win from the Bonnyville Pontiacs with Lush turning away 43 shots.
Lush, 20, joined the Thunder in early October and holds a 9-3-1 record since arriving to Drayton Valley. He is 5th among AJHL Goaltenders with a .924 SV% and his 2.63 GAA places him 9th in the League.
