The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is forward Matt Forchuk of the Canmore Eagles. Forchuk scored 2 goals and 8 assists in 2 games last week to extend his season opening point streak to 10 games and 23 points.
Forchuk was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game with 3 assists versus Sherwood Park on October 7th and again on October 8th with a 4 point night in a win over the Olds Grizzlys. The 19 year-old Captain was recently selected as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Month for September 2016.
Matt Forchuk (Okotoks, AB) leads the AJHL Scoring Race with 23 points (7G, 16A) and has the most assists among all AJHL scorers. This is Forchuk’s third season with the Canmore Eagles.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Grande Prairie Storm goaltender Arik Weersink. The 19 year-old posted a 1.5 GAA in two wins over the Thanksgiving Weekend. Arik stopped 67 of 70 shots in consecutive wins over the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday and Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday.
Arik Weersink (Lethbridge, AB) leads the AJHL with a .940SV% and is 6th overall with a 1.92GAA on the season. The second year Storm netminder is 3-1-0 to start the 2016-2017 campaign.
