Fort McMurray, AB — The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are proud to announce that defenceman Shawn Eliav has committed to the Neumann University Knights (NCAA Division III).
“Shawn made an immediate impact on our defensive core after joining us via trade in November, quickly becoming a cornerstone on the blue line,” said Oil Barons Head Coach Sam Klassen. “We’re incredibly proud of his growth and grateful for the leadership and dedication he brought to our program. His commitment to Neumann University is well-earned, and we’re confident that Coach Hedden and the Knights will benefit greatly from both his character and talent as he continues his academic and hockey journey.”
A reliable and steady presence on the back end, the 2004 born defenceman from Boca Raton, Florida, finished the 2024–25 season with 15 points (4 goals and 11 assists) in 30 regular season games, and was a key figure for the MOB in all aspects of the game.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who made my time in Fort McMurray with the Oil Barons so special,” said Eliav. “The organization played a huge role in my growth both on and off the ice and was a key part of my decision to commit to Neumann University. Thank you to the coaching staff for your belief in me and constant support. A special thank you to my billet family—your kindness and generosity made Fort McMurray feel like home. I’ll always be thankful for everything you’ve done for me.”
The Oil Barons would like to congratulate Shawn and his family on this exciting accomplishment and wish him continued success as he embarks on the next chapter of his hockey and academic career.
