There was an interesting goaltending battle at the Canada Games Arena on Saturday night.
On one end of the ice was Grande Prairie Storm goalie Curtis Skip and 200 feet away was Drumheller Dragons goalie Braden Gamble. While both goalies put on a show, making a combined 66 saves, what made this goalie match-up special was that Skip and Gamble are close and long-time family friends.
Skip’s father Al and Gamble’s father Glen, who are both 51 years old, were raised together in Peace River and have known each other their entire lives.
While Curtis claimed the 4-2 victory over Braden on Saturday, watching their sons compete at the Alberta Junior Hockey League-level was a rare treat for both dads.
