The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Lloydminster Bobcats forward Luke Fritz with three multi-point games in three wins from February 17th-23rd, 2025.
Fritz (2004) led the AJHL with seven points (4G, 3A) starting with a three-point game (1G, 2A) on Family Day in a 4-0 shutout victory over the Devon Xtreme. On February 18th, Luke was selected as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game with a goal and an assist in a 4-1 road with versus the Grande Prairie Storm. Fritz received his second consecutive Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award on February 23rd when he scored two goals, including his fifth game winner of the season, to defeat the Drayton Valley Thunder 6-3.
Fritz and the Bobcats have now clinched a spot in the 2025 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.
Drumheller Dragons goaltender Sean Cootes is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week with a 3-0 record and .934 save percentage.
Cootes (Sherwood Park, AB) made 21 saves in a lopsided win over the visiting Olds Grizzlys on Family Day. The second year Dragon allowed just one goal against on 34 shots in the opening game of a double header versus the Grande Prairie Storm to win 2-1 on February 22nd, then made 31 saves to record a 4-3 shootout win the following night.
Cootes (2005) is tied for fifth among AJHL goaltenders with a 2.44 GAA and is fourth overall with a .920 save percentage.
Teammate Jase Johnstone is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week with six points (5G, 1A) and led all AJHL rookies in scoring.
Johnstone (2006) posted his second five-point game of the season with four goals and an assist as the Dragons pleased the home crowd with an 11-2 victory against the Olds Grizzlys and tied the franchise record for most goals in a single game. Johnstone scored his fourth game winning goal of the season and was named the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in the win. On February 23rd, the rookie forward scored the game tying goal in an eventual shootout win against the visiting Grande Prairie Storm. Johnstone is in the Top 20 of AJHL rookies with 25 points (11G, 14A).
The Drumheller Dragons remain in a heated battle for the final playoff spot in the Viterra AJHL South Division with five regular season games remaining.
