The Calgary Mustangs are pleased to announce 20 year old defenceman and team captain, Jared Van Ree has committed to attend Mount Royal University and play hockey for the Cougars. The Cougars are entering their 3rd season in the CIS West.
Born and raised in Calgary, Jared grew up playing hockey in the Simons Valley Hockey Association and NEAA before moving onto Junior. A four year Mustang, Jared was the captain for two seasons and leaves the team as the all time leader in games played with 239.
Calgary Mustangs Head Coach Derek Stuart stated, “Jared is very deserving of this achievement after all his hard work, dedication and leadership. A tough, physical defenceman who plays a lot of minutes, Jared’s remarkable durability is a direct result of his determination and heart. MRU is getting an excellent person, student and hockey player”.
“I am extremely happy to be joining Mount Royal to continue my education and to be a part of the Cougars hockey team,” said Jared Van Ree. “I would like to thank the Calgary Mustangs for everything they have done for me the past four seasons. I am excited to take the next step in my career”
The Calgary Mustangs organization is very proud of Jared and would like to congratulate him and his family on this accomplishment.
Jared is the third Mustang to commit to a University or College this season joining Phelan Shaw- University of Minnesota-Duluth (NCAA) and Riley McDougall-UMass (NCAA).
