A decision has been made on the captain of the Cru’s ship.
Forward Dillon Massie will be the official on-ice leader of the Crusaders as they compete in their 35th Alberta Junior Hockey League season out of Sherwood Park.
Massie takes over the position from Erik Liknes and Blair Mulder, who co-captained the last team but have since graduated from the league due to age restrictions.
“Dillon has been with the program for three years and has really grown into a good leader over the course of his time here,” said Crusaders G.M. and head coach Tim Fragle. “He was a leader last year as an assistant captain. Being a local Sherwood Park kid and a player who has been committed to our program for a while, it seemed like a very good fit.
“Dillon is really excited and has been looking forward to this opportunity. He wants to be the leader of this hockey club. There were a couple of other candidates, but he was in the running last year and was at the top of the list again this year and we weren’t about to pass over him twice. If the same name keeps coming up, it is for a good reason.”
The Crusaders will operate with three assistant captains this season, sewing A’s on to the sweaters of Dane Phaneuf, Andrew Taverner and Marshall Donald.
