Risling Commits to Vermont

The Canmore Eagles are extremely pleased to announce that 19 year-old forward Ryley Risling has committed to the University of Vermont Catamounts for the 2016-2017 season.

The University of Vermont is a NCAA Division 1 school in the East Coast Athletic Conference. The University is located in Burlington, Vermont (42,000 pop) and is scenically located on the shores of Lake Champlain.  NHL hockey stars Patrick Sharp (2002), Victor Stalberg (2009), Martin St. Louis (1995-1997) and Tim Thomas (1993-1997) are amongst the Catamounts alumni.

During the 2014-15 Alberta Junior Hockey League season, Risling led the Eagles in scoring with 26 goals and also registered 20 assists for 46 points in 54 games played.

“We are very pleased for Ryley that he has achieved his goals in just two seasons with the Eagles,” said Eagles General Manager and Coach Andrew Milne, of the 6’2 Medicine Hat, Alberta native. “The Catamounts are getting a big strong forward who certainly knows how to put the puck in the net. We wish Ryley and his family the best of luck going forward.”

Risling will join former Eagle defenceman Trey Phillips in the Catamounts lineup.

Risling is the fifth Canmore Eagle from the 2014-2015 roster to obtain an NCAA scholarship following Connor Wilson (U MASS), MacKenzie Watson (Saint Thomas), Nikolas Kosman (Wisconsin Superior), and Joe Serpico (Suny Geneso).
