ROWLAND, IRONSIDE AND BATTEN SELECTED AS WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Okotoks Oilers forward Jackson Rowland.  The 2004-born recorded eight points (3G, 5A) in two games since returning from the holiday break.

Rowland (Calgary, AB) set a new franchise game record with seven points (2G, 5A) as the Okotoks Oilers defeated the Olds Grizzlys 11–4 on December 29th.  The AJHL record for most points in a single game is nine, which was set by Ron Rose of the Drumheller Falcons in 1975.  Rowland was named as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game.

Jackson recorded his 16th goal of the season on December 30th in a 9-3 loss to the league-leading Brooks Bandits.  In his second season with the Oilers, Rowland has 35 points (16G, 19A) in 31 games played.  The Oilers are currently fourth in the Canalta Hotels AJHL Standings and just a single point back of the third place Blackfalds Bulldogs.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Carson Ironside of the Camrose Kodiaks.  Ironside posted two wins, including a shutout, and a shootout loss over three games played between December 18th-31st, 2023.

Ironside (2003) joined the Kodiaks in mid-December and posted a shutout on December 19th in just his second game of the season.  He made 38 saves to blank the Drayton Valley Thunder 4-0 and earn the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award.

On December 29th, the Kodiaks fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons with Ironside (St. Albert, AB) recording 27 saves.  In the second game of the double header in Fort McMurray, the Kodiaks were victorious with a 5-1 score and 26 saves for Ironside.  He would receive his second Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award for the victory.

This is Carson Ironside’s fourth AJHL season.  The AJHL veteran has recorded a .951 save percentage and 1.49 GAA since returning to the league.

Forward Billy Batten is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week with four points (1G, 3A) in two wins for the Bonnyville Pontiacs.  Batten has recorded points in his last three consecutive games.

The Pontiacs returned from the holidays with a 5-1 win at home versus the Drayton Valley Thunder on December 29th.  Batten (2004) scored a goal and two assists in a three-point game, including an assist on the game winner.  He posted his 20th assist of the season the following night in a tight 4-3 win versus the visiting Whitecourt Wolverines.

Battin (Phoenixville, PA) is tied for seventh among first year players with 24 points (4G, 20A).
