Saints Force Game 7 with Road Win Against Cru

Sherwood Park vs. Spruce Grove (series tied 3-3)

There will be a game seven as the road teams continue to dominate the North Division semi final series between the Spruce Grove Saints and Sherwood Park Crusaders.

A solid second period by Spruce Grove was able to power them to a 5-3 victory on Sunday night.

The Crusaders would open the scoring at 16:31 of the opening period as Caleb Belter drove down the right wing and snap the shot behind Saints goaltender Kenny Cameron on the power play.

The Saints would tie the game at 1-1 early in the second period as Austin Hunter snapped a shot five hole on Crusaders goaltender Tommy Nixon, the goal came at 2:55.

Just 30 seconds after that (3:25) Carson Samoridny would jam in a rebound to give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

A bit later in the period former Crusader Jake Mykitiuk would be left all alone at the side of the net and beat Nixon who was trying to scramble back into position to make it 3-1 Saints at 7:38.

The Crusaders would answer back as David Randall’s shot was redirected by Caleb Bleter to make it 3-2 Saints at 9:50 of the second period.

The Saints would restore their two goal lead late in the second period as Parker Mackay snapped the shot into the back of the net at 19:22 and after two periods it was 4-2 Saints.

Late in the third the Saints were able to add to their lead as Parker Mackay would score his second of the night on a cross ice pass from Corey Chorneyko at 18:44.

The Crusaders would cap off the scoring on the power play as Andrew Taverner ripped a point shot behind Cameron at 19:31 of the third period.

Crusaders goaltender Tommy Nixon made 27 saves in the win.

Saints goaltender Kenny Cameron stopped 16 shots.

Game seven will be on Tuesday night in Spruce Grove.
