Okotoks, AB – The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are proud to announce that 2000 born forward Ben Sanderson (Calgary, AB) has committed to the Colorado College Tigers.
Located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Tigers play in the NCAA’s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under four-year Head Coach Mike Haviland. The Tigers hockey program has won nine conference titles, participated in 20 NCAA Tournaments, ten of them in the Frozen Four, and two National Titles (1950, 1987).
Sanderson, 17, in his rookie season with the Oilers has accumulated 22 points (16 goals, 6 assists) in 44 games played.
Oilers Head Coach & Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says in the brief time that Sanderson has been with the team, he always seems to be the threat that can turn momentum into the team’s favour.
“Ben’s abilities, including his speed and high caliber shot, always have the opposing teams watching his transition to offensive zone pressure. He has become a very valuable asset to our hockey club. We couldn’t be more proud of Ben and we are looking forward to developing his game to have him ready to head off to his next level of play.”'
Sanderson was recruited to the team after a season with the Calgary Northwest Flames of the Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) where he had 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) in 32 games and scored nine points in eight AMHL playoff games (4 goals, 5 assists).

Ben is the second Oiler in franchise history to suit up for the Tigers, joining 2014-15 Oiler captain Tanner Ockey who is in his Junior season and serves as an alternate captain for the Tigers.
