Smyl (Fairfield, CA) recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 7-1 defeat of the Drayton Valley Thunder on October 7th. His second goal of the game was the eventual game winner and Smyl now leads the AJHL with three game winning goals. He was also awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.
Cooper helped his team to a 3-2 OT victory versus the Sherwood Park Crusaders on October 8th with two assists, bringing his season total to 14 points (8G, 6A).
Tanner Willick of the Blackfalds Bulldogs is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Willick extended his current point streak to eight games with five points (1G, 4A) in three games last week.
Willick (2003) scored a goal and added an assist in a 6-3 loss to his former team in Drumheller on October 4th. The second year AJHL defenceman recorded two assists on the road in Fort McMurray on October 7th in a tight 3-2 loss.
Tanner marked his 12th assist of the season as the Bulldogs got back to winning on October 8th with a 5-4 shootout victory in Bonnyville.
Willick (Saskatoon, SK) is tied with Cooper Smyl for sixth in AJHL scoring with 14 points (2G, 12A) and leads all AJHL defencemen in points.
The Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week is Canmore Eagles forward Rhett Dekowny. The 2004-born Eagle sits sixth amongst AJHL rookies with eight points (4G, 4A) following the opening weeks of the 2022-23 season.
On October 7th, Dekowny scored two goals and three assists versus the Drumheller Dragons in an 8-3 win in front of the home crowd. Rhett was also recognized as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for his five-point performance.
