Spruce Grove, AB – The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce Rob Sklaruk as the new General Manager.
“The Saints are very excited to have Rob as a part of our organization; he is a strong leader and has excellent management and communication skills,” Saints President, Ryan Smyth commented. “We wanted our GM to have a strong presence in our community and Rob already has that respect and familiarity with fans, sponsors and local hockey.”
“The Saints are one of the most respected Jr. A franchises in Canada and I am honored for the opportunity that Dan, Lindsey, and Ryan have entrusted me with,” Sklaruk said. “We have an excellent foundation and we are looking to build on our culture of winning and attracting top players. We are focused on delivering the best player development program available.”
Sklaruk has lived the past 25 years in the Spruce Grove and Stony Plain communities and for the past five seasons he has held the position of President, General Manager and Assistant Coach with the Stony Plain Eagles Senior AAA Hockey Club. As both a player and a coach, Sklaruk won 12 Provincial Championships and an Allan Cup National Championship with the Eagles, and is still the Eagles all-time leading scorer. Rob was a member of the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL during his junior career and has coached elite level youth hockey in the surrounding communities for the past 10 years. Thus Rob is very familiar with many of the upcoming players inside and outside of the Saints system.
“I played for Rob the past two seasons with the Eagles,” reflected Smyth, “what I can tell you is that Rob is a fierce competitor and is always willing to put in the hard work and dedication that it takes to win. Rob is actively engaged in the selection and hiring of our new coaching staff and we look forward to additional announcements in the near future.”
