I guess this is why Benny Scrivens kept those Alberta licence plates on his vehicle for all those years. The former Spruce Grove Saints goalie is coming home, more or less, after he was part of an NHL trade for the second time this year, going from the L.A. Kings to the Edmonton Oilers.
The day after the Spruce Grove native arrived back in Edmonton with his new team, he said in a phone interview that this trade caught him totally off-guard.
“I definitely didn’t see this trade coming but that being said, I’m extremely excited about the opportunity to come back home, play in Edmonton, and try to develop my game and my career a little further.”
Interestingly enough, Scrivens said he never gave any thought to perhaps one day tending goal for the Oilers, or any NHL team for that matter, as a minor hockey player in the Grove.
