Tariq Hammond will succeed Will Butcher as captain of the NCAA champion University of Denver hockey team.
Pioneers coach Jim Montgomery, who projected Hammond as the next captain April 8 after DU won its eighth national championship with a 3-2 victory over Minnesota-Duluth in Chicago, made it official Thursday.
