The recipient of the 2018 Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship is Drumheller Dragons forward Tyler Kreklewich. In a pre-game ceremony prior to tonight’s AJHL playoff game at the Drumheller Memorial Arena, Tyler was presented with the $1,500 scholarship by Kyle Rosin of Inter Pipeline.
The Inter Pipeline AJHL Scholarship Program rewards one current AJHL player with a scholarship towards their post-secondary education at the conclusion of each season. The scholarship is awarded to the player deemed most deserving among the sixteen applicants (one per AJHL team) based on their proven qualities in the areas of leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and citizenship.
“Through hockey I have developed many important skills and the game has prepared me for life after the sport,” stated Tyler Kreklewich. “These skills include a positive attitude, responsibility, team work, leadership and many others.”
“Hockey has taught me the importance of teamwork and I’ve learned that it is impossible to achieve personal goals without the support of teammates and coaches, or bosses and coworkers in terms of life after hockey. The leaders on a hockey team make sure everyone fulfills their responsibility in order to achieve team success. Hockey has given me the opportunity to learn from leaders, as well as be a leader on a team.”
“Overall, these skills I’ve fostered through hockey will apply to my life beyond the game and hockey has prepared me for success in the future. I am grateful for everything this great sport has taught me.”
Dragons GM / Head Coach Kevin Hasselberg recognizes the significant impact Kreklewich has had over the past two seasons. “Tyler arrived in Drumheller looking for a fresh start and a renewed opportunity to develop his game. He instantly brought leadership to the Dragons and was a role model to a very young and enthusiastic roster.”
“Tyler’s outgoing demeaner and positive outlook on all situations, good or bad allowed players around him to grow and thrive in adverse situations. His teammates respect him and enjoy his company, whether team building or conversing in the dressing room before a game. His ability to communicate is not strictly as someone who speaks, he listens, interprets, and responds thoughtfully with compassion and intentness.”
Tyler was very committed to his studies and thrived academically as evidenced by his transcripts. “He promptly completes tasks and does so with careful attention to detail and proper execution. As his Coach, I have pushed him and challenged him in every way. Tyler has never backed down from any of these challenges and regardless of a set-back, he has always rebounded and found ways to improve. I am honoured to support Tyler’s academic and athletic goals as he ventures into the University setting.”
Tyler will attend the University of Regina is his home province of Saskatchewan in Fall 2018.
