The Whitecourt Wolverines are pleased to announce the hiring of Gord Thibodeau as the team’s new Vice President of Hockey Operation, General Manager and Head Coach.
Thibodeau brings a wealth of experience to the position having been a head coach in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for 22 years. Most recently he was at the helm of the Lloydminster Bobcats who finished as the runners up at this year’s RBC Cup.
Prior to his second stint in Lloydminster, Thibodeau made his mark in the AJHL during an 11 season run behind the bench of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. In his 665 games as the bench boss in Fort McMurray the Oil Barons won more than 400 games amassing a winning-percentage of .618%. Under the guidance of Thibodeau the Oil Barons reached the north division final 6 times, the league final 5 times and won the AJHL championship in 2006.
Thibodeau is one of the most respected coaches in the AJHL with his success on the ice matching his success off as he helped several hockey players go on to further their careers at the NCAA and CIS level.
Before joining the coaching ranks Thibodeau played four years as a defenceman with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.
The entire Wolverines organization are thrilled to welcome Gord and his family to Whitecourt.
