Wolverines Blanked in Game Three vs. Saints

Whitecourt, AB – The Whitecourt Wolverines have been pushed to the brink of elimination following a 1-0 loss in game three of the North Division Final to the Spruce Grove Saints on Monday.

The teams skated to a scoreless but very physical and fast-paced first period.

The Wolverines had two high-quality chances to open the scoring in the second period as both Stevie Bryant and Ben Evanish found themselves behind the Saint’s defence but both their breakaway opportunities would be thwarted by the right pad of goaltender Nolan Kent.  The Saints would finally break the deadlock late in the middle frame as Chase Olsen tipped in a point shot.

The Wolverines appeared to tie the game midway through the third period after a dump-in pinballed off a pair of Saints players and into their own net, however, the goal was disallowed as a Wolverine player was offside on the play.  In the final two minutes, the Wolverines would apply pressure inside the Saints zone but could not find a late equalizer as the Saints now lead the best-of-seven series 3-0.

Game 4 of the North Division Final goes Tuesday night in Whitecourt at 7:30 p.m.
