The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Whitecourt Wolverines Captain Tyler Mahan. In three games played from November 29th – December 5th, the 19 year-old forward scored a hat trick and picked up seven points (4G, 3A) while leading the Wolverines to two wins.
Tyler Mahan (Calgary, AB) scored his first goal of the week in a 6-2 road win in Grande Prairie on November 30th and added an assist on the score sheet. On December 3rd, the Wolverines hosted the Storm in game two of the home and home series, which resulted in an 8-5 victory for Whitecourt. Mahan scored his first AJHL hat trick, recorded his second four-point game of the season, and earned his fifth Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award. The week ended with a 7-2 loss for the Wolverines in Drayton Valley on December 5th with Mahan picking up his 21st assist of the season.
The third-year Wolverine leads the team in scoring with 40 points (19G, 21A) and is seventh overall in the AJHL Scoring Leaders. Mahan recently accepted a scholarship to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and play for the NCAA Division I Tigers.
Fort McMurray Oil Barons goaltender Joshua Nadler is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Nadler limited the highly offensive Spruce Grove Saints to just one goal per game in two consecutive victories and extended his winning streak to six games.
Nadler, 20, was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game on December 3rd in a 4-1 win versus the Saints. He held the Saints to a single goal again on December 4th in a 3-1 victory, turning away 25 of 26 shots. The Saints lead the Viterra AJHL North Division in Goals For (151) with an average of 4.7 goals per game.
Nadler (Montreal, QC) holds a record of 14-4-0 and a 2.55 GAA, which is sixth among all AJHL goaltenders. The Oil Barons are first overall in the North Division with a record of 25-6-0.
Drumheller Dragons forward Vann Yuhas is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The 17 year-old scored two goals and four assists in two victories versus division rivals.
Yuhas (Medicine Hat, AB) added two assists in a 6-2 win versus the Canmore Eagles on November 30th. A 7-2 victory over the Olds Grizzlys on December 4th resulted in Yuhas receiving his third Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award after recording his third game winning goal of the season, and first four-point (2G, 2A) game in the AJHL.
The Dragons’ rookie is third in team scoring with 25 points (9G, 16A). Drumheller is 8-1-1 in their last ten games and sit second in the Viterra AJHL South Division at 19-8-3.
