BRODY MAGUIRE COMMITS TO RPI

The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are delighted to announce that 2004-born defenceman Brody Maguire (Calgary, AB) has committed to attend and play for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).

Located in Troy, New York, the Engineers play in the NCAA’s Division I ECAC Hockey division, under 4th-year head coach Dave Smith.

“Brody has been a huge contributor to our culture and our staff is extremely proud of him for this,” said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis. “He’s worked extremely hard to get to this point and it’s reflective of the effort he’s put in with our organization.”

Maguire has recorded eight points in 26 games with the Oilers so far this season, and played in all but nine games of last year’s regular season as a 17-year old rookie on a young Okotoks blueline, scoring 20 points in the process and adding five more in 14 playoff games.

He was originally recruited from the Edge School in Calgary, where he was the top scoring defenceman on the school’s Elite 15s team in 2019-20, scoring 26 points in 35 games.

“It’s a surreal feeling,” said Maguire of committing to RPI. “It’s really a dream come true for me, and a great school both academically and athletically, and the team plays with a mindset that I can really fit with.

“I’m really grateful to my family, as well as all the coaches and training staff that have helped me get to this point,” he added.

He is the seventh player on this season’s Oilers roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, and the fourth to commit this season, joining:

  • Kade Turner (Ferris State)
  • Rylan Brown (Michigan Tech)
  • Jagger Tapper (RPI)
  • Sam Huck (Western Michigan)
  • Conyr Hellyer (Arizona State)
  • Connor Gourley (Arizona State)*
