Chisholm, Ward and Marcellus Recognized as Player of the Week Award Winners

Brooks Bandits forward, Sean Chisholm, scored five times on Friday night to earn the honour of Inter Pipeline AJHL Player of the Week.    The Dartmouth College (NCAA Div I) commit scored 6 goals last week and now leads the League with 15 goals while sitting third in scoring with 24 points in 14 games.

Chisholm, 20, recorded his first AJHL hat trick in a 6-3 win over the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday night before adding two more, including the game winning goal.   It was no surprise that the Caledonia, ON native was subsequently awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.   Sean scored his league-leading 15th goal of the season in a 5-0 shutout of the Crusaders on Saturday.

Two members of the Drayton Valley Thunder are recognized in the weekly awards for April 19th-25th as Mason Marcellus gains the title of Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week and goaltender Eric Ward earns the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week selection.

For the second time in the 2020-21 season, Thunder forward Mason Marcellus has been awarded the Merit Contractors AJHL Rookie of the Week.   The 18 year-old leads all rookies with 17 points (5G, 12A) and is third in the AJHL scoring race.

The Thunder recorded two consecutive 4-1 wins over the Spruce Grove Saints on April 23rd and 24th.   Marcellus scored the first and third Thunder goals and was rewarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in the opening game of the weekend.   The next night, Mason assisted on the first goal of the game and added an assist on the game winner.

Mason Marcellus (Ottawa, ON) has committed to the University of Alaska Fairbanks of the NCAA Division I for the 2022-23 season.

Goaltender Eric Ward posted a 2-0 record versus Spruce Grove over the weekend and helped out offensively with an assist as well.   Over two games, Ward turned away 68 of 70 shots on goal and posted a 1.0 GAA.

The 20 year-old from Edmonton, AB leads the AJHL in most games played (11), and is tied for most wins after recording each of Drayton Valley’s seven wins this season.   Ward also leads the AJHL in saves with 333 and save percentage at .922%.
