MACNEIL, MORTENSEN AND SAWYER EARN WEEKLY AWARDS

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Owen MacNeil with eight points (1G, 7A) in three victories for the Okotoks Oilers from November 20th-26th, 2023.

The 2003-born forward from Calgary, AB is in his first AJHL season.  MacNeil extended his active point streak to four games and 11 points last week as the Oilers extended their win streak to five games.  Okotoks is 6-0-1 (W-L-OTL) in their last seven contests with four of the games in that span going to overtime.

MacNeil recorded three assists in a 5-1 win over the host Calgary Canucks on Monday, November 20th.  He opened the scoring on Friday, November 24th versus the Olds Grizzlys to score the eventual game winner in a 7-0 victory.  MacNeil posted his third consecutive three-point game with a goal and three assists.  On November 25th, Owen added two assists in a 5-4 overtime win versus the second-place Sherwood Park Crusaders and earned the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award.

Brody Mortensen of the Canmore Eagles is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week with a six-point performance in back-to-back wins.

Mortensen (Humboldt, SK) led the Eagles to a 5-3 road win over the Olds Grizzlys on Tuesday, November 21st with two goals and an assist.  He repeated with two goals and an assist on Friday, November 24th as the Eagles broke the Sherwood Park Crusaders seven-game win streak with a 7-4 victory.  The Eagles defenceman scored just seconds into the game and notched two goals in the first period to take an early lead in the game.

The 2004-born Eagles alternate captain has already surpassed his point total from last season with 16 points (8G, 8A).  Brody is committed to Lindenwood University of the NCAA Division I.

 For a third time this season, Logan Sawyer of the Brooks Bandits is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week.  The 2006-born forward extended his eight-game point streak with five points (2G, 3A) in two games last week and continues to lead all rookies in scoring with 38 points (16G, 22A).

The Providence College (NCAA Div I) commit scored two goals and an assist on November 24th on the way to a 6-2 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats.  Logan added two assists the following night in a 6-3 win versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs as the Bandits extended a 10-game win streak.

Logan Sawyer (Calgary, AB) and the Bandits lead the Canalta Hotel AJHL Standings with a record of 25-3-0.
