The Fort McMurray Oil Barons wrapped up their July summer camp Sunday with an intrasquad game, giving head coach and general manager Gord Thibodeau and his coaching staff an opportunity to view his returning player’s development and get a look at some prospects ahead of the selection camp in August.
Thibodeau noted that it was a tough weekend to gauge talent due to the discrepancies in age, but he was still impressed with the level of play.
“Overall, there weren’t any kids who were out of place.” He went onto add that he was pleased with the shape that the veteran players had returned in, showing their commitment to the team and intention to improve upon last season’s first-round playoff exit.
The three day camp held at MacDonald Island Park featured several different drills early on before seeing the players in game action on Saturday and Sunday. Thibodeau noted that a few players positioned themselves well for the selection camp in August.
