The Heat is on Rowney This Weekend

Former Grande Prairie Storm forward Carter Rowney will be taking another step towards a professional hockey career on Friday, when he suits up for the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Heat.

Rowney, a senior at the University of North Dakota, has taken a couple of weeks’ leave from his final semester at school, after signing an Amateur Try-Out contract with the Heat – the Calgary Flames’ AHL affiliate.

“My last two seasons at North Dakota have gone pretty well. My junior year went really well (18 goals, 33 points in 42 games) and I kind of got onto everyone’s radar then,” said Rowney, during a phone interview from Abbotsford on Thursday.
