Forward PJ Marrocco of the Bonnyville Pontiacs is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. Marrocco took over the lead in the AJHL Scoring Race with 5 goals and 2 assists in two games last week. He now leads the AJHL with 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) and is averaging 1.6 points per game.
Marrocco scored 2 goals and 1 assist in a 6-4 win over the Spruce Grove Saints on Friday night. He opened the scoring on Saturday night and contributed 3 goals and 1 assist in a 6-3 victory over Lloydminster to wrap up the weekend. Marrocco has recorded points in 12 of his last 13 games.
PJ Marrocco, 20, was recently named the Viterra Cup Standings leader as of November 1st, 2017. Marrocco received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award eight times throughout September and October.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Calgary Mustangs goaltender Joey May. Since joining the Mustangs at the end of September 2017, May has posted a 5-1-1 record, including a 2-0 record and a shutout last week.
May won both his games in net for the Mustangs last week, starting with an 8-2 victory over the Olds Grizzlys on October 30th. The 19 year-old stopped 31 of 33 shots to earn the win. On November 5th, May shutout the Brooks Bandits 3-0 by turning away all 29 shots on goal. The Mustangs also picked up a 4-0 shutout win over the Camrose Kodiaks on November 4th, credited to goaltender Ashton Abel.
May has a .921 SV%, 4th overall in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. The Mustangs are on a six-game win streak and sit in a two-way tie for 3rd place in the Viterra AJHL South Division Standings with a record of 11-9-1.
