The Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Brooks Bandits forward William Lemay. The AJHL leading scorer extended his 10-game point streak by adding 4 goals and 5 assists in three games from December 10th – 16th.
Lemay scored a goal and an assist as the Bandits narrowly defeated the Calgary Mustangs in a 6-5 overtime win on Tuesday, December 11th. Brooks stole another tight win with a 5-2 victory over the Drumheller Dragons on Friday. William assisted on the game winner and scored an empty net goal to seal the win. On Saturday night, Lemay recorded 4 points, with 2 goals and 2 assists, as the Bandits exploded for a 10-2 win against the Calgary Canucks. Lemay received the Viterra Star of the Game Award for his season high 4-point game.
The 19 year-old Bandit has recorded points in 29 of 55 regular season games and is averaging 1.5 points per game. He leads the league with 21 goals, 31 assists and 52 points. Lemay was named as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Player of the Month for November 2018.
William Lemay has committed to attend and play for the University of Vermont (Division I) beginning in the 2019-2020 NCAA season.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Camrose Kodiaks goaltender Griffin Bowerman. The 18 year-old posted two wins, including a shutout, and received two Star of the Game Awards in games versus South Division foes last week.
Grffin Bowerman (Calgary, AB) kicked off the weekend with a 6-0 shutout versus Olds, stopping all 44 shots on goal, and recording his second shutout of the season. Bowerman denied 34 of 35 shouts on Saturday night to defeat the Drumheller Dragons 2-1 in overtime and tighten the gap in the standings. Bowerman was rewarded as the Viterra Star of the Game in both victories.
The second year Kodiak is 9-4-0, leads all AJHL goaltenders with a .931SV% and is 7th overall with a 2.28GAA.
The Kodiaks are tied for third in the Viterra AJHL South Division Standings with a game in hand moving into the final week before the Holiday Break.
