Spruce Grove Saints forward Dondre Watson is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the week of January 11th – 17th, 2016. Watson scored 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points in 3 games played for the Saints, who acquired Watson at the Trade Deadline earlier this month.
Dondre Watson (Calgary, AB) scored a hat trick in a 5 point night on January 15th versus Grande Prairie and received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award. He recorded a 4 point game the next night against Canmore including the game winning goal. Watson leads the Saints in game winning goals (5 GWG).
The 19 year old forward is third in team scoring with 26 goals, 13 assists and 39 points. The Saints have won the last 4 consecutive games and are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Spruce Grove remains on top of the Viterra AJHL North Division standings.
The Alberta Ford Dealers Goalie of the Week is newly acquired Bandits goaltender Garret Hughson. Since joining the Bandits, Hughson is 5-0 with 3 consecutive wins coming last week.
Hughson stopped 69 of 73 shots in 3 games played and recorded his second AJHL shutout during the impressive week. Garret Hughson (Foremost, AB) received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in a 2-0 shutout versus Okotoks on January 16th. His stingy 1.57 GAA is the lowest of all AJHL goaltenders as is his save percentage of .934%.
The Brooks Bandits are 1st overall in the Viterra AJHL South Division and are in the midst of a 16 game winning streak.
