The final Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the 2015-2016 season is Grande Prairie Storm forward Luke Mahura. The four year veteran closed out his AJHL career with 5 goals and 6 points in three games, including two game winning goals.
Luke Mahura (St. Albert, AB) scored a hat trick against the Bonnyville Pontiacs to start the week on March 2nd and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game. On March 4th, he scored the game winning goal in a shootout to defeat the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Mahura ended the weekend with the game winning goal on March 5th versus Fort McMurray to close out his AJHL career.
The Storm Assistant Captain led the team in scoring with 53 points (25G, 28A), his highest point total as an AJHL player. The 20 year-old played in 217 AJHL games and scored 128 points over his career.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Goalie of the Week is Matt Berlin of the Drayton Valley Thunder. Berlin recorded a shutout victory after stopping 48 shots against the Lloydminster Bobcats in his final regular season game. The Thunder (6) will face the Bobcats (3) in Round One of the 2016 Gas Drive AJHL Playoffs.
Berlin was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for his shutout performance. It was his third Star of the Game selection this year. The 18 year-old from Edmonton, AB played in 16 games during this, his rookie season, with the Thunder.
