Kodiaks Win South Division Title and Advance to AJHL Final

The Camrose Kodiaks are the 2011 AJHL South Division Champions. The Kodiaks will now meet the North Division Champion Spruce Grove Saints in the 2011 AJHL Enerflex Cup Final.

The Camrose Kodiaks defeated the Okotoks Oilers 3-2 in Game Seven of the South Division Final on Tuesday night in Okotoks. The Kodiaks trailed 3-1in the series before winning three consecutive games to capture the title and upset the Oilers. The Okotoks Oilers finished the regular season on top of the South Division with 91 points, the Kodiaks placed third in the Division with 70 points.

The Kodiaks eliminated the Drumheller Dragons in the opening round of the AJHL Playoffs. The second and third round series against the Brooks Bandits and Okotoks Oilers both went the full seven games to determine a winner. The Kodiaks last succeeded to the League Final in 2007-2008, where they defeated the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in Game Seven to win the League Title. The Kodiaks have a guaranteed spot in the 2011 RBC Cup National Junior A Championship as the host team.

By securing 1st place in the North Division during the regular season, the Spruce Grove Saints earned a first round bye in the 2011 AJHL Enerflex Cup Playoffs. The Saints then went on to sweep the Lloydminster Bobcats and Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The Saints are undefeated in the 2011 AJHL Playoffs (8-0).

This will be the third consecutive League Final appearance for the Saints. The Saints are the defending AJHL Enerflex Cup Champions. The Spruce Grove Saints also captured the 2010-2011 Dave Duchak Trophy as the AJHL Regular Season Champions for the third consecutive season.

A full schedule of the 2011 AJHL Enerflex Cup Final will be announced on the AJHL website on March 30th. The best-of-seven series will begin in Spruce Grove, Alberta.
